It can be used as a cement and plaster admixture, and bonds to most common building materials, excluding PVC and rubber. This product is ideal for priming surfaces before plastering or painting, acting as an adhesive for wood, cork, and textiles, especially when at least one surface is porous. It's also effective for general dust sealing on flaking paintwork and walls, and as an admixture for cement, mortar, screeds, and renders. To use as an adhesive, apply PVA to both surfaces, join them while tacky, and clamp for 24 hours. For priming or sealing porous substrates like old concrete or plasterboard, dilute 1 part PVA with 4 parts water and brush onto the surface. As a bonding agent for plaster, apply neat PVA to the surface and apply plaster while tacky. For cement renders, combine PVA with an equal amount of water for small areas or dilute 3 parts PVA with 1 part water for larger areas and apply before the emulsion dries. For filler/plaster admixtures, dilute 1 to 1 with water and add to the mix. Avoid exterior applications or areas with constant damp.

FAQs
Can Bartoline PVA be used outdoors?
No, Bartoline PVA Adhesive & Sealer is intended for interior use only and should not be used in areas subject to constant damp or exterior conditions.
How do I dilute Bartoline PVA for priming?
For priming porous substrates like plasterboard or old concrete, dilute 1 part PVA with 4 parts water. Brush this mixture onto the surface.
What surfaces does Bartoline PVA bond to?
It bonds well to most common building materials such as wood, cork, textiles, plaster, and porous concrete. It will not bond to PVC or rubber.
How should I clean up spills or tools?
Clean all tools and spills with water immediately after use, before the product dries. Dried PVA may be difficult to remove.
Can I use this as a general wood glue?
Yes, it can be used as an adhesive for wood, especially when at least one of the surfaces is porous. Apply to both surfaces, join while tacky, and clamp for approximately 24 hours.
What is its function as a cement admixture?
It can be mixed with cement, mortar, screeds, and renders to improve adhesion and flexibility. For general use, dilute 1 to 1 with water and add to the mix, or use 3 parts PVA to 1 part water for larger render areas.
Does it seal dust on walls?
Yes, it is effective for general dust sealing on flaking paintwork and walls, helping to bind loose particles and create a stable surface.
Troubleshooting
Product is too thick to apply
Dilute with water according to the specific application method (e.g., 1:4 for priming, 1:1 or 3:1 for render admixtures). Ensure the product has not been stored below freezing.
Adhesion failure
Ensure surfaces were clean, dry, and free from dust or grease before application. Verify that at least one surface is porous. Check that the product was applied correctly and allowed sufficient drying/curing time.
White marks after drying
Excessive application or inadequate dilution can sometimes lead to a white residue. Ensure recommended dilution ratios are followed and wipe away any excess before it dries completely.
