These are the double thick cake boards, measuring approx. 0.5 inches thick, commonly referred to as a drum board. They are a more heavy duty board than regular 3mm or 4mm thick ones, and are designed to be able to carry heavier cakes, such as fruit cakes, and multi tiered wedding cakes. These drums look extremely elegant and are a great alternative from the usual silver boards. They can also compliment your cakes if you have used gold to decorate it. These boards provide a perfect base for wedding and other tiered cakes and are incredibly strong and durable, being able to take a substantial weight. As a rule of thumb, decorators tend to use drum boards that are two inches bigger than the largest cake tier. For example, if you are baking a 12 inch cake, you will need a 14 inch drum board. These cake boards are made from compressed wood, and are covered with a food safe rose gold foil, which allows cakes to be placed on top without it touching the wood. Cake boards can come in a variety of different sizes, shapes, and even thicknesses, meaning there is a cake board out there for your cake. Please note, sizes are approximate and may vary slightly.
