The TIMCO Coach Screw (8 x 100mm) is designed for professional contractors and DIY enthusiasts who require heavy-duty fastening power for timber-to-timber or masonry projects. Its primary benefit is providing exceptional holding strength for structural applications, though users should note that pre-drilling is often necessary, particularly when working with dense hardwoods to prevent splitting.

These screws feature a hexagonal head and are best installed using a socket wrench or a socket adapter for a drill.
They are Bright Zinc Plated, which offers some corrosion protection, but they are best suited for indoor or sheltered outdoor environments.
Yes, you must use a heavy-duty nylon wall plug when installing these screws into brickwork or concrete.
While not always required for softwoods, pilot holes are highly recommended for hardwoods to ensure accuracy and prevent wood damage.
The 8mm coach screw typically requires a 13mm socket.
Each retail bag contains 40 screws.
The timber is likely a dense hardwood; drill a pilot hole using a bit slightly smaller than the screw shank diameter.
Ensure the socket size used is exactly 13mm and fits snugly onto the hexagonal head before applying torque.
Ensure you are maintaining an adequate edge distance and always use a pilot hole when working near the end grain.
For optimal results, ensure the pilot hole diameter is slightly smaller than the core diameter of the screw to maintain thread bite while preventing wood splitting. When driving into masonry, ensure the nylon plug is correctly seated. While the BZP coating is effective against corrosion in standard environments, avoid using these screws in treated timbers that contain highly acidic preservatives, as these can accelerate oxidation. Store in a cool, dry place to prevent premature tarnishing of the zinc finish.
