Absolutely not. Never insert metal objects like knives, forks, or aluminum foil into the toaster slots, as this can cause electric shock or damage the appliance. Always unplug the toaster and let it cool if you need to remove stuck bread.

For optimal performance and safety, it's recommended to empty and clean the crumb tray after each use, or at least daily, especially if used frequently. This prevents crumb buildup which can cause burning smells or fire hazards.

The Smeg 2 Slice Toaster features 'extra-wide' slots, designed to accommodate a variety of bread types, including thicker slices, bagels, and artisan breads, without getting stuck.

Ensure the bread is properly centered in the slots. The self-centring racks should help, but very irregular bread shapes might require adjustment. Also, check if there's excessive crumb buildup inside (clean crumb tray).

Verify the power cord is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet. Try plugging another appliance into the same outlet to confirm it has power. If the outlet works, check if the circuit breaker has tripped.

Unplug the toaster immediately and allow it to cool. The most common cause is accumulated crumbs. Remove and thoroughly clean the removable crumb tray. If the smell persists after cleaning, there might be food stuck inside the slots; carefully remove it using non-metallic tongs after ensuring the toaster is unplugged and cold.

Always ensure the toaster is unplugged and completely cool. Do not use metal objects. Carefully turn the toaster upside down and gently shake it to dislodge the toast. For persistent issues, use non-metallic tongs to carefully remove the item.
