Sennheiser ME 2 Omni-Directional Clip-On Lavalier Microphone

The ME 2 is primarily optimized for speech intelligibility. While it can capture sound across its frequency range, its focus is on clear vocal reproduction. For music recording, microphones with wider frequency responses and different polar patterns are generally more suitable.

Directly connecting the ME 2's 3.5mm locking connector to a standard smartphone or computer microphone input is not possible without an adapter. Furthermore, it requires a powered input from a compatible Sennheiser wireless system; it does not function as a standalone microphone.

The Sennheiser ME 2 comes with an integrated audio cable that is 1.5 meters (approximately 4.9 feet) long.

The 3.5mm connector has a threaded collar that you can twist to lock onto the corresponding input on a Sennheiser wireless bodypack transmitter. This prevents the cable from accidentally being pulled out during use.

An omnidirectional microphone picks up sound equally from all directions (360 degrees). This means it captures sound from the front, sides, and rear of the microphone capsule. It's beneficial for lavalier mics as it doesn't require precise aiming at the sound source.

The ME 2 microphone itself does not have its own batteries. It draws power through the 3.5mm connection from the Sennheiser wireless transmitter it is plugged into.

Gently wipe the microphone capsule and cable with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquids or cleaning agents, as they can damage the delicate components. Ensure the microphone is completely dry before use.

Ensure the 3.5mm locking connector is securely plugged into the transmitter and the locking mechanism is engaged. Verify that the transmitter is powered on and paired correctly with the receiver. Check battery levels on both the microphone (if applicable via transmitter) and the receiver.

Check the gain settings on the Sennheiser transmitter and the connected receiver or recording device. Ensure the microphone is positioned correctly on the subject, close to the sound source.

Ensure the integrated windscreen is properly in place. For very windy conditions, consider using an additional foam or furry windscreen if compatible with the microphone capsule.

Confirm the microphone is not obstructed by clothing. Ensure the capsule is facing the sound source. Check the frequency response settings on your transmitter or receiver if available, and consider subtle EQ adjustments in post-production to enhance speech intelligibility.
