Full details

The FloPlast ABS Solvent Weld Coupling is ideal for professional plumbers and DIY enthusiasts working on domestic or commercial waste water systems. It provides a highly secure, permanent leak-free joint for 32mm pipes, though it requires precise application of solvent weld cement to ensure a successful bond, making it less forgiving than push-fit alternatives.

FAQs

Can I use this with 40mm pipes?

No, this coupling is strictly for 32mm systems. You would need the 40mm variant for larger pipe diameters.

Is this coupling reusable?

No. Solvent welding creates a chemical bond that fuses the plastic together, making it a permanent connection.

Do I need special glue for this?

Yes, you must use a dedicated ABS solvent weld cement designed for waste pipe systems.

Can this be used outdoors?

Yes, ABS is suitable for outdoor use, though it should be protected from direct sunlight where possible to prevent long-term UV degradation.

How long does the bond take to dry?

Initial set occurs within a few minutes, but it is recommended to wait at least 24 hours for a full, pressure-ready cure.

Troubleshooting

Joint is leaking after installation

Usually caused by insufficient solvent application or debris in the joint; ensure surfaces are cleaned and dry before re-applying cement.

Pipe will not slide into the coupling

Check for plastic burrs or rough edges on the pipe end; use a file or deburring tool to smooth the end before attempting insertion.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Creates a permanent, leak-proof joint
  • Lightweight yet highly durable material
  • Sleek professional appearance
  • Industry-standard sizing for easy compatibility

Cons

  • Requires solvent cement for installation
  • Bond is permanent and cannot be disassembled
  • Requires precise measurement and cutting

Setup, Compatibility & Care

To install, first de-burr the pipe end and ensure it is clean and dry. Apply a thin, even coat of ABS solvent cement to both the outside of the pipe and the inside of the coupling socket. Push the pipe into the coupling firmly, using a slight twisting motion to distribute the cement evenly. Hold the pieces in place for 30 seconds to allow the initial bond to set. This coupling is exclusively compatible with FloPlast 32mm solvent weld systems and should not be mixed with push-fit components. For maintenance, periodically inspect joints for signs of stress or improper alignment.
