Setup, Compatibility & Care
Planting:
- Choose a location with well-draining soil and partial to full shade.
- Dig a hole slightly larger than the root ball of your plant.
- Gently remove the plant from its container and loosen any circling roots.
- Place the plant in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the ground.
- Backfill with soil, gently firming it around the roots.
- Water thoroughly after planting.
Compatibility:
Winter Gem pairs well with other shade-loving plants such as: Hosta, Ferns, Heuchera and other ground covers.
Care:
- Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry periods, ensuring the soil remains consistently moist but not waterlogged.
- Mulching: Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant to help retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.
- Pruning: Prune after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Remove any dead or damaged branches.
- Fertilizing: Feed in early spring with a balanced fertilizer to promote healthy growth and flowering.
- Pests and Diseases: Monitor for common pests like aphids or scale and address any infestations promptly. Ensure good air circulation to prevent fungal diseases.
