Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup
The Powersheds 12X12 Power Timber Decking Kit is designed for easy self-assembly. Here are key steps and considerations:
- Site Preparation: Clear and level the area where the deck will be installed. Ensure proper drainage away from the house or other structures. A solid, level foundation is crucial for the deck's stability and longevity.
- Base Rail Assembly: Begin by laying out the modular, pre-assembled 95mm x 44mm tanalised base rails. Ensure they are square and level using a spirit level. Secure them according to the instructions provided.
- Newel Post Installation: Erect the extra thick 85mm x 85mm Patrice Newel Posts. These provide the primary support for the handrails and overall structure. Ensure they are plumb and securely anchored.
- Decking Board Installation: Lay the reversible dual profile decking boards. Use the provided green, corrosion-resistant stainless steel screws, ensuring they are flush with the board surface for a neat finish. Consider which profile you prefer before laying.
- Handrail Attachment: Attach the pre-assembled handrails to the newel posts on the two designated sides. Ensure all fixings are tight and secure.
- Final Checks: Once assembled, re-check all fixings for tightness and ensure the deck is level and stable.
Compatibility
- Dimensions: This kit measures 360.8 cm wide by 360.8 cm deep, with a height of 120 cm. Ensure your desired installation area can accommodate these dimensions.
- Surface: Best installed on a well-drained, level surface.
- Material: Made from wood, it is suitable for outdoor environments.
Care
- Cleaning: Regularly sweep debris from the deck surface. For deeper cleaning, use a mild wood cleaner diluted with water and a soft brush or pressure washer on a low setting. Avoid harsh chemicals that can damage the timber.
- Inspecting Fixings: Periodically check all screws and bolts to ensure they remain tight, especially after extreme weather conditions.
- Timber Maintenance: Although the timber is pressure-treated for rot resistance, applying a clear deck sealant or stain every few years can help maintain its color, protect it from UV damage, and enhance its longevity. Allow new timber to weather for a few months before applying any additional treatments.
- Winter Care: During winter, clear snow and ice promptly to prevent prolonged moisture exposure. Avoid using rock salt directly on the timber, as it can be corrosive.
