FAQs
How does UV sterilisation work?
Ultraviolet (UV) light is a form of invisible light that targets and inactivates the DNA of micro-organisms, effectively killing 99.9% of bacteria, mould, and viruses without the need for water, chemicals, or heat.
How long does a sterilisation cycle take?
The sterilisation time varies: clear bottles take 10 minutes, while coloured bottles require 35 minutes. A full sterilise and dry cycle usually takes 60 minutes, and dry-only cycles can be 30, 40, or 50 minutes.
Can I sterilise any type of baby bottle or accessory?
Yes, the Tommee Tippee Ultra UV Steriliser is designed to be compatible with a wide range of branded baby bottles, as well as soothers and breast pump accessories. It features adjustable shelves to accommodate different shapes and sizes.
What is the 'Storage Mode' feature?
Storage mode maintains the sterility of your items after a cycle. The unit will run a 5-minute UV light and 5-minute drying program every 2 hours to keep the contents sterile. Items can remain sterile for up to 24 hours if the door stays closed.
How do I clean and maintain the steriliser?
Wipe the interior and exterior with a clean, damp cloth. The unit also has a replaceable and washable air filter that should be regularly cleaned to ensure efficient drying and prevent dust accumulation. Do not immerse the unit in water.
Is the UV steriliser safe for my baby's bottles and for household use?
Yes, it is designed for safety. The UV light is contained within the unit, with an auto shut-down feature when the door is opened. It's a chemical-free process, and bottles are cool to touch after sterilisation, eliminating scalding risks associated with steam.
Is this steriliser energy efficient?
Yes, the UV steriliser is noted as Tommee Tippee's most energy-efficient steriliser when using the sterilise-only function, consuming less electricity compared to other sterilisation methods.
Troubleshooting
The steriliser unit will not turn on or respond to controls.
Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into both the unit and a working electrical outlet. Try plugging another appliance into the same outlet to confirm power is available. If it still doesn't turn on, ensure the door is fully closed as the unit has a safety auto shut-down feature if the door is open.
Bottles are still wet after a drying cycle.
Check that the filter is clean and properly installed, as a clogged filter can reduce drying efficiency. Ensure items are not overloaded or touching each other, allowing proper air circulation. Select a longer drying cycle (e.g., 50 minutes instead of 30 minutes) if conditions are particularly humid or if items are heavily loaded.
Concerns about sterilisation effectiveness (e.g., bottles not feeling sterile).
Always ensure items are thoroughly cleaned of milk residue before placing them in the steriliser. Arrange items to allow maximum exposure to the UV light, avoiding overlapping. Confirm the door is fully closed during the cycle to prevent the UV light from shutting off prematurely. The unit kills 99.9% of germs, but prior cleaning is crucial.
An unusual odour is coming from the unit during operation.
This could indicate a dirty air filter. Remove, clean, and re-install the washable filter. If the odour persists, it may be time to replace the filter with the spare provided or a new one.
