This Moxon Vice, with origins dating back to the 1650s, remains popular due to its exceptional usefulness. It securely clamps to any supporting surface, effectively converting it into a workbench. Alternatively, it can raise a workpiece on an existing workbench to a more comfortable working height, proving particularly useful for tasks like cutting dovetails or hand sawing tenons. The Axminster Professional Moxon Vice is supplied with solid beech wood jaws, measuring 45mm thick and 140mm deep, ensuring a very stable work hold. Manufactured in Europe, this vice features two 20mm diameter rolled screw threads with a 4mm pitch, complemented by two 130mm diameter cast iron hand wheels. The substantial weight of the hand wheels and the polished acme screw threads enable the wheels to spin freely, allowing the jaws to be closed with minimal effort. A large brass washer is positioned behind each hand wheel to distribute the load on the front jaw. The 350mm space between the screw threads accommodates work on the ends of wider boards, and the vice is capable of clamping tapered workpieces.
