Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure success, plant your Pernettya in a spot that receives partial shade to full sun. Because this plant is ericaceous, it is vital to use an ericaceous (acidic) compost if planting in containers, or check that your garden soil pH is suitable.
- Planting: Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball and fill with ericaceous soil.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, especially during the first year of establishment.
- Feeding: Use a fertilizer formulated for acid-loving plants during the spring to encourage healthy growth.
- Pruning: Only minor pruning is required to maintain the compact shape, ideally performed after the flowers have faded in summer.
