FAQs

What is this tool used for?

This tool is specifically designed to remove the camshaft pulley from certain Ford engines (Fiesta 1.8d Turbob and Focus 1.8d from 1998 onwards) safely and efficiently, typically during timing belt or camshaft maintenance.

Is this tool compatible with engines other than the specified Ford models?

No, this puller is precisely engineered for the Ford Fiesta 1.8d Turbob (98-) and Focus 1.8d (98-). Using it on other engines may result in improper fit or damage.

Can I use this puller on a petrol engine?

This puller is specified for diesel engines (1.8d) from Ford. It is not designed for petrol engines or other engine types.

What are the OEM part numbers this puller replaces?

This Neilsen puller replaces OEM part numbers 21-229 and 303-651.

How do I ensure I don't damage the camshaft while using this puller?

Apply pressure gradually and evenly using the puller's mechanism. Avoid sudden jolts or excessive force. Ensure the puller is correctly seated on the pulley before starting the extraction.

What maintenance is required for this tool?

Clean the tool after each use to remove grease and debris. Store it in a dry place to prevent rust. Periodically inspect for any signs of wear or damage to the jaws or screw.

Troubleshooting

Puller does not grip the pulley securely.

Ensure the puller jaws are fully seated and evenly distributed around the pulley. Verify that the correct puller model is being used for the specified engine.

Pulley is extremely tight or seized.

Apply a penetrating lubricant to the pulley hub and crankshaft. Allow it to soak before attempting removal again. Gentle tapping on the pulley may also help break corrosion. If still seized, professional assistance may be required.

Puller screw is difficult to turn.

Check for debris in the screw threads or on the pulley hub. Ensure the puller is perfectly centered. Lightly lubricate the screw threads.
