FAQs
What is the main advantage of the GA2 grips?
The main advantage is the combination of a super-soft, tactile rubber compound and an ergonomic shape that reduces grip pressure, leading to less hand fatigue and enhanced control on demanding trails.
Are these grips suitable for a beginner rider?
Yes, the comfort and control benefits can be very helpful for beginners, especially on rougher terrain, but proper setup is key.
Can I use these grips with heated handlebars?
These grips are not designed for heated handlebars, and using them may damage the heating elements or the grip material.
How do I know if the 30mm diameter is right for me?
A 30mm diameter is generally considered standard to slightly larger. Riders with smaller hands might prefer a smaller diameter grip, while those with larger hands or who prefer a fuller feel may find it ideal.
What is the warranty period for Ergon GA2 grips?
Ergon typically offers a limited warranty against manufacturing defects. Please refer to the official Ergon website or your point of purchase for specific warranty details.
How often should I check the tightness of the clamp bolts?
It is recommended to check the tightness of the clamp bolts after the initial installation and then periodically, especially after hard riding sessions or prolonged use, to ensure they remain secure.
Are the bar end plugs included?
Yes, the Ergon GA2 grips come with replaceable bar end plugs.
Troubleshooting
Grips are slipping on the handlebar.
Ensure the clamp bolts are tightened sufficiently. If the issue persists, remove the grip, clean the handlebar and the inside of the grip, and re-install, ensuring bolts are tightened evenly.
Grips feel too large or too small.
The GA2 model has a 30mm diameter. Consider trying the Ergon GA2 Fat grips if you prefer a larger diameter or explore other Ergon models if this size is not suitable for your hand size.
Bar end plugs are difficult to install or keep falling out.
Ensure the handlebar opening is clean. For stubborn plugs, a small amount of grease can aid insertion. If they are loose, check for damage to the plug or handlebar end; replacement plugs may be needed.
Uneven wear on the rubber.
This can be caused by inconsistent pressure or specific riding styles. Ensure even tightening of clamps and consider rotating your bike or grips periodically if possible to promote more even wear.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Exceptional grip and control due to soft rubber compound.
- Ergonomic shape reduces hand fatigue on long rides.
- Superior vibration damping enhances comfort and protects nerves.
- Durable construction with UV-stable materials.
- Secure lock-on system prevents slippage.
- Carbon handlebar compatible.
Cons
- 30mm diameter may be too large for riders with smaller hands.
- Proprietary rubber compound may wear faster than harder compounds.
- Bar end plugs, while replaceable, can be a point of failure if not secured properly.
Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
- Ensure your handlebar is clean and free of old grip residue.
- Slide the grip onto the handlebar, ensuring the lock-on clamp is towards the outside.
- Align the grip to your preferred position.
- Tighten the clamp bolts evenly using an Allen key (typically 3mm or 4mm) until the grip is secure. Do not overtighten.
- Install the bar end plugs by pushing them firmly into the end of the handlebar.
Compatibility:
- Handlebar Diameter: Designed for standard 22.2mm diameter handlebars.
- Bar Type: Suitable for Mountain Bike, All Mountain, Freeride, and Dirt bikes. Compatible with both aluminum and carbon handlebars due to the carbon-friendly clamps.
Care:
- Clean the grips regularly with mild soap and water. Use a damp cloth for general cleaning.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the rubber compound.
- Periodically check the tightness of the clamp bolts and the security of the bar end plugs.
