Setup, Compatibility & Care
Initial Setup
Upon first receiving your Bulova Octava, if it's not running, it may need to be manually wound. Gently rotate the crown clockwise 20-30 times while it's in the closed position to build up an initial power reserve. After this, set the time as described in the "Performance & Real-World Use" section. The watch will then continue to wind itself as you wear it.
Compatibility
This watch is a standalone timepiece and does not require compatibility with other devices. Its design is versatile enough to complement a wide range of formal and semi-formal attire.
Care and Maintenance
- Cleaning: To maintain the luster of your watch, particularly the gold-tone finish and crystals, wipe it regularly with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. For light grime, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed immediately by a dry one. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Water Resistance: Your Bulova Octava 98A292 is `splash proof`. This means it can withstand splashes of water, such as rain or hand washing. Do not wear it while showering, bathing, swimming, or diving, as this will void the warranty and cause damage.
- Storage: When not wearing the watch, store it in a cool, dry place, preferably in its original Bulova watch box, to protect it from dust and scratches. If you plan not to wear it for an extended period, consider a watch winder to keep the automatic movement running and accurate.
- Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Protect the watch from extreme heat or cold, as well as sudden temperature changes, which can affect the movement and seals.
- Magnetic Fields: Keep your automatic watch away from strong magnetic fields (e.g., speakers, televisions, strong magnets), as these can temporarily affect its accuracy.
