The Tamiya Weathering Set B (87080) is an essential tool for scale modelers looking to add authentic, professional-grade finish details to their projects. Ideal for military vehicle and naval model enthusiasts, this kit provides a controlled way to apply realistic snow, soot, and rust effects. While it offers excellent precision for specific detail work, the compact palette size requires careful handling to avoid cross-contamination of the colors during frequent use.

It is recommended to apply the compound over a flat or satin clear coat to ensure the best adhesion for the pigments.
Yes, the soot color is excellent for exhaust staining on aircraft, while the rust can be used for landing gear wells and panel detailing.
Since the compound is a semi-wet pigment, it can often be removed or lightened by carefully wiping with a damp cloth or a brush dampened with mild thinner.
The pigments will stay on the model, but it is best practice to seal your finished work with a final clear spray varnish to protect the weathering from being rubbed off by handling.
You can mix the powders on a separate surface to create custom shades, though the set is pre-formulated for specific effects.
A base coat of paint is recommended, as the pigments adhere much better to paint than to raw plastic.
Gently dampen the applicator tip with a tiny amount of water or thinning medium to help pick up the pigment.
Use a clean, dry brush to lightly scrub and blend the excess pigment away from the surface.
Thoroughly clean the applicator sponge and brush with a soft cloth or paper towel between each color application.
To begin, ensure your model has a fully cured base coat of paint before applying the weathering compound. Use the included sponge tip for broad area weathering or the brush tip for concentrated detail lines. To keep the set in peak condition, always wipe the applicator clean before switching between the three different colors to prevent muddying your palette. Store the palette in a cool, dry place and ensure the plastic lid is snapped shut tightly after every use to prevent the semi-wet compounds from hardening prematurely.
