FAQs

Can I use cleaning solutions in the Dyson PencilWash™?

The Dyson PencilWash™ is designed primarily for use with clean water to ensure hygienic cleaning and optimal performance of the microfibre roller. Always refer to your user manual for specific guidance on any approved cleaning solutions, as some may damage the internal components or the roller.

How often should I clean the microfibre roller?

The microfibre roller is designed to self-clean during use. However, it is recommended to rinse it after each use and allow it to air dry completely to maintain optimal performance and hygiene.

What is the run time of the Dyson PencilWash™?

The Dyson PencilWash™ offers up to 30 minutes of run time on a single charge, depending on the power mode selected and the cleaning intensity required.

Is the Dyson PencilWash™ suitable for all floor types?

The Dyson PencilWash™ is specifically designed for sealed hard floors such as tile, laminate, vinyl, and sealed wood. It is not suitable for use on carpets, rugs, unsealed wood, or unglazed tiles.

How do I empty the dirty water tank?

The dirty water tank can be easily detached from the unit. Simply unclip it, empty the contents into a drain, rinse the tank, and reattach it securely.

What maintenance is required for the Dyson PencilWash™?

Regular care includes emptying and rinsing the dirty water tank, rinsing and air-drying the microfibre roller, wiping the exterior, and checking filters periodically as per the user manual.

Does the unit require assembly?

Basic assembly is typically required, usually involving connecting the handle to the main body. Detailed instructions are provided in the product manual.

Troubleshooting

Unit not picking up debris effectively

Ensure the microfibre roller is clean and properly installed. Check for any blockages in the cleaner head or dirt intake path. Make sure the correct power mode is selected for the type of mess.

Water not dispensing or leaking

Verify that the clean water tank is correctly seated and filled. Check for any obstructions in the water outlet. Inspect the unit for any cracks or damage to the tanks or seals.

Poor drying performance

Ensure the microfibre roller is clean and not oversaturated. Check that the dirty water tank is not full, as this can impede airflow. Clean the air vents if they appear blocked.

Unit stops mid-use

Check the battery level. If the unit has overheated, allow it to cool down. Ensure there are no blockages causing the motor to strain.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Excellent at removing both wet and dry messes from hard floors.
  • Leaves floors remarkably clean and dry quickly.
  • The self-propelled function makes cleaning less physically demanding.
  • Its slim profile allows for easy access under furniture and in tight corners.
  • Self-cleaning roller simplifies maintenance.

Cons

  • Primarily designed for hard floors, not carpets.
  • Run time may be limited for very large areas.
  • Requires regular maintenance of the roller and water tanks.
  • May not be suitable for extremely heavy, caked-on grime without pre-treatment.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Assemble the handle and main unit as per the included instructions.
  2. Fill the clean water tank with clean water. For optimal results, use only clean water. Refer to the manual for any specific cleaning solution recommendations if applicable.
  3. Ensure the dirty water tank is empty and properly seated.

Compatibility:

The Dyson PencilWash™ is designed for use on sealed hard floors. Avoid using on unsealed or waxed wood, unglazed tiles, or carpets. Always test on an inconspicuous area if unsure.

Care:

  • After each use, empty and rinse the dirty water tank.
  • Remove and rinse the microfibre roller under running water. Allow it to air dry completely before reinserting.
  • Wipe down the exterior of the cleaner head and main unit with a damp cloth.
  • Periodically check the filter and clean or replace as recommended in the user manual.
  • Store the unit upright in a dry place.
