Full details

The Helly Hansen Balaclava in Black is designed for adults seeking low-profile warmth in cold conditions. Its key benefit is the dual-layer construction combining LIFA® fibers for moisture-wicking with soft Merino wool for insulation, keeping you dry and warm during high activity. A minor caveat is that while it provides warmth, it's primarily for active use rather than extreme static cold.

FAQs

What is the primary function of the LIFA® fibers?

LIFA® fibers are designed to transport sweat and moisture away from the skin, keeping you dry and comfortable during physical activity.

How does the Merino wool contribute to the balaclava's performance?

Merino wool provides natural insulation, helping to keep you warm in cold conditions. It also offers natural odor resistance.

Can I wear this balaclava under a helmet?

Yes, the balaclava features a low-profile design that integrates well under most helmets without adding unnecessary bulk.

Is this balaclava suitable for extreme cold?

It is designed for high activity in cold weather. For very extreme static cold, additional layers or a specialized extreme-weather balaclava might be necessary.

How often should I wash the balaclava?

Wash as needed based on use. Follow the specific care instructions to maintain the integrity of the fabric blend.

What does 'Flatlock seams' mean for comfort?

Flatlock seams are constructed in a way that they lie flat against the skin, reducing the chance of rubbing and irritation, especially during repetitive movements.

Can I use fabric softener when washing?

No, it is recommended not to use fabric softener, as it can interfere with the moisture-wicking properties of the LIFA® fibers.

Troubleshooting

Balaclava feels itchy or irritating.

Ensure the care instructions have been followed. Sometimes, an initial wash can help soften the fibers. The flatlock seams are designed to minimize irritation, but individual sensitivities may vary.

Moisture not wicking effectively.

Check that the garment is not overly saturated with sweat or detergent residue. Ensure you are following the recommended washing instructions and avoiding fabric softeners, which can impede wicking performance.

Loss of elasticity or shape after washing.

Avoid high heat drying or ironing. Always dry flat as instructed. High temperatures can damage the synthetic and wool fibers, leading to loss of shape.
