Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setting Your Combination
- Open the Lock Box: The lock box comes preset to `0-0-0-0` or `0-0-0-0-0` (Info needed: Default combination length).
- Locate the Reset Lever: Inside the lock box, typically on the back of the door, find the small reset lever (often marked 'SET' or with an arrow).
- Move the Lever: Push the lever to the 'SET' or 'UP' position.
- Enter New Combination: With the door open, rotate the dials to your desired personal combination. Choose a strong, memorable number that isn't easily guessable.
- Return the Lever: Push the reset lever back to its original position.
- Test the Combination: Close the door, scramble the dials, and then enter your new combination to ensure it opens. Do this *before* locking it with valuables inside.
Compatibility
The Master Lock 5401EURD is designed to hold most standard house keys, car keys (without large electronic fobs), and access cards. The internal dimensions (Info needed: internal dimensions) allow for several keys. Ensure your keys fit comfortably without forcing the door closed.
Care and Maintenance
- Protect Your Combination: Always keep your combination private and consider writing it down in a secure, hidden place as a backup.
- Regular Cleaning: Wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth to remove dirt and grime. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the finish or internal mechanisms.
- Lubrication: If the dials become stiff, especially in colder climates, apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the moving parts of the dials. Avoid oil-based lubricants as they can attract dust.
- Shackle Inspection: Periodically check the shackle for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure it closes securely.
- Weather Protection: While durable, positioning the lock box in a sheltered location (e.g., under an awning) can extend its lifespan.
