The B&Q MOT Type 1 Sub Base is designed for DIY enthusiasts and professionals seeking a reliable, high-performance foundation for driveways, patios, and garden paths. This crushed aggregate provides a stable, compactable base that ensures long-term structural integrity for paving or groundwork projects. While the 50kg total weight distributed across two manageable 25kg bags simplifies transportation and installation in restricted spaces, users should be aware that the natural composition of the aggregate may lead to slight variations in color and grading between batches.

MOT Type 1 refers to a specific granular sub-base material that meets Ministry of Transport requirements for road construction, ensuring it compacts effectively for structural stability.
Coverage depends on the depth required, but generally, 50kg will provide a base for a very small patch or localized repair project.
Yes, for structural applications like driveways or paths, using a plate compactor is essential to ensure the base is solid and will not sink later.
Absolutely, it is an excellent material for creating a solid foundation under gravel or paved garden paths.
As a natural product, some variation in the stone color and grading is expected, though this does not affect its performance as a sub-base.
No, this is a sub-base material. It is designed to be covered by paving, concrete, or other final surfacing materials.
Ensure the sub-base is laid in thin layers (max 100mm) and that a vibrating plate compactor is used for each layer rather than just hand tamping.
Mix the contents of different bags during the application process to blend any natural aesthetic variations.
To ensure the longevity of your project, always ensure the ground is properly prepared and free of soft organic material before applying the sub-base. The product is compatible with most standard paving types. Since the material is natural, moisture levels within the bag may vary, which can influence how quickly it sets under compaction. For maintenance, keep the surrounding area well-drained to prevent the sub-base from becoming waterlogged over time, which can compromise the integrity of the paving above.
