No. The existing timber must be dry and sound. If the timber is rotten, it must be removed or replaced before fitting the capping board.
Freefoam boards are designed with high-quality, weather-resistant materials to minimize UV degradation, though slight natural weathering can occur over many years.
You will need a fine-toothed saw for cutting, a hammer, and stainless steel polytop nails.
The boards are pre-finished in anthracite grey. Painting is not recommended and may void the aesthetic finish or cause long-term peeling.
Use a standard joiner or union specifically designed for 200mm fascia boards to allow for thermal expansion.
Ensure the underlying timber is level before fixing. Use packing shims if necessary to create a flat substrate.
Use color-matched polytop nails that blend into the anthracite grey finish, and ensure they are driven in straight.
To install, ensure your existing timber fascia is dry, level, and structurally sound. If the timber is uneven, you may need to apply a new backing board first. Secure the capping board using appropriate 50mm or 65mm stainless steel polytop nails, spaced at intervals of no more than 600mm.
