This is a single BT Wall Master Socket with IDC Terminals, model NTE5A. It is designed to be connected to the main incoming telephone line of a property and cannot be used as an extension socket. The faceplate attaches to a standard 23mm single back box with the included screws. The NTE5A master socket features a removable front panel, which disconnects all customer extensions, allowing direct plugging into the line operator for easy testing. This latest version includes a bellwire filter to potentially improve broadband speeds. Installation involves connecting the BT drop cable wires (typically orange, white, green, black) to the master socket terminals, usually marked A and B, or 2 and 5. The active pair (often orange and white) should be connected to A and B, with polarity considered for optimal equipment function. A multimeter can verify the correct voltage for pin 5 (B, -48V) and pin 2 (A, 0V). Connections can be made using an IDC tool. The BT drop cable may contain multiple pairs for additional lines or backup.
