Setup, Compatibility & Care
Planting:
- Choose a location that receives full sun to partial shade.
- Ensure the soil is moist and well-drained. Amend heavy clay soils with compost to improve drainage.
- Dig a hole twice the width of the plant's root ball and to the same depth.
- Gently remove the plant from its grower's pot, taking care not to damage the roots.
- Place the plant in the hole, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface.
- Backfill the hole with soil and water thoroughly.
Care:
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during dry spells. Avoid letting the soil dry out completely.
- Pruning: Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage new growth. Remove any dead or damaged stems.
- Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring.
- Protection: In colder climates, provide winter protection for the roots.
Compatibility:
This shrub is generally compatible with a wide range of perennial plants that thrive in similar conditions (moist, well-drained soil, partial shade). Avoid planting in areas prone to waterlogging.
Important Note: This plant is a skin irritant. Wear gloves when handling to avoid contact with skin.
