FAQs

What type of pipe does this fitting work with?

This fitting is specifically designed for 25mm MDPE (Medium Density Polyethylene) water pipes.

Do I need special tools to install this tee?

Basic plumbing tools such as a pipe cutter and two wrenches are typically sufficient for installation. No specialized tools are required for the compression mechanism itself.

Can this fitting be used for gas lines?

No, this fitting is designed for water supply lines only and is not suitable for gas installations.

How tight should I make the compression nut?

Tighten the nut hand-tight, then use a wrench to turn it an additional 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn. Overtightening can damage the fitting or pipe.

What is the pressure rating of this fitting?

This fitting is suitable for standard domestic cold water supply pressures. Consult the manufacturer's specifications for precise pressure ratings if needed for high-pressure applications.

Can I use this fitting with older lead pipes?

No, this fitting is only compatible with MDPE pipes. Adaptors would be required to connect to different pipe materials like lead, but this is generally not recommended for water systems.

Troubleshooting

Leak at the connection point

Ensure the pipe is fully inserted into the fitting and the compression nut is tightened appropriately. Check for any damage to the pipe end or the fitting itself. Re-tighten if necessary, or consider replacing the fitting and pipe section if damaged.

Difficulty inserting pipe

Verify that the pipe is indeed 25mm MDPE and that the end is clean, square, and free from obstructions or deformation. Lightly chamfering the pipe end can sometimes help.

Fitting not holding securely

Confirm that the correct type of MDPE pipe is being used and that the pipe wall is sufficiently rigid to be gripped by the fitting's collar. Ensure the compression nut and collar are correctly positioned.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Provides a secure and reliable connection for MDPE water pipes.
  • Compression fitting requires no special tools or skills beyond basic plumbing knowledge.
  • Durable construction from a reputable manufacturer.
  • Standardized 25mm size ensures compatibility with other fittings and pipes of the same dimension.
  • Facilitates efficient water distribution with its equal tee design.

Cons

  • Only compatible with MDPE pipes, not suitable for other pipe materials.
  • Requires adequate space for installation and pipe bending.
  • Over-tightening compression fittings can potentially damage the pipe or fitting.
  • Not suitable for applications requiring high-temperature or high-pressure ratings beyond standard water supply.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Ensure the MDPE pipe is clean, free from dirt, and has a square-cut end.
  2. Remove any burrs from the pipe end.
  3. Unscrew the compression nut and loosen the retaining collar.
  4. Slide the nut onto the pipe, followed by the collar.
  5. Insert the pipe fully into the fitting body until it seats correctly.
  6. Slide the collar over the pipe end and ensure it sits flush against the pipe.
  7. Screw the compression nut hand-tight, then use a wrench to tighten it an additional 1/2 to 3/4 of a turn to secure the seal. Avoid over-tightening.

Compatibility:

  • This fitting is designed exclusively for use with 25mm MDPE (Medium Density Polyethylene) water pipes.
  • Ensure the pipe conforms to relevant British Standards for water supply.

Care:

  • These fittings require no ongoing maintenance once installed correctly.
  • Regularly inspect the visible parts of the connection for any signs of leaks or damage. If issues arise, the fitting may need replacement.
