Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure your bare root strawberries thrive, follow these guidelines:
- Preparation: Upon arrival, soak the roots in a shallow tray of water for 30-60 minutes to rehydrate before planting.
- Planting Depth: Position the roots so they spread downward into the hole, ensuring the crown (the point where roots meet the stems) is just at the soil surface level. Burying the crown too deep can lead to rot.
- Soil/Medium: Use well-draining, nutrient-rich soil. If planting in pots, ensure they have sufficient drainage holes.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged, particularly during the first few weeks as the plant develops its primary root system.
- Maintenance: Remove any initial flowers in the first few weeks if the plant looks stressed, as this encourages the plant to put energy into root and leaf development first.
