Setup, Compatibility & Care
Before installation, disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts. Ensure that the mounting surfaces are clean and free of corrosion, as a poor electrical ground is a common cause of starter failure. When installing, tighten the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's recommended torque specifications to prevent misalignment. To prolong the life of the starter, avoid "over-cranking"—do not engage the starter for more than 10-15 seconds at a time; allow the internal components to cool for 30 seconds if the engine does not start immediately. Periodic inspection of the electrical cables and terminals for signs of heat damage or fraying is recommended during routine maintenance.
