DESCRIPTION
Excel solid Cat6a cable screened U/FTP LSOH S-Foil CPR Euroclass Dca designed and manufactured to meet and exceed the ISO, CENELEC and TIA standards and supplied on 305m boxes. Excel Cat 6A Screened (U/FTP) Cable takes the performance capabilities of copper infrastructure to new levels. This delivers Class EA/ Augmented Category 6 link performance over distances of up 90 metres which supports the applications including 10GBASE-T, 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
Each cable consists of two sets of two pairs are wrapped together in an "S" configuration with high quality, strong, aluminium/polyester foil tape providing screening for each pair. The "S" Foil configuration ensures separation of the pairs that ensures the performance. The individual pairs are set to different lay lengths to ensure optimum performance. Euroclass Cable! Euroclass Dca copper network cables is manufactured to meet the Construction Projects Regulation (CPR) . Dca copper network cables can safely be installed in buildings that have moderate building fire safety requirements in some regions this class is used for general installs.
This Excel Solid Cat6a U/FTP S-Foil LSOH cable is designed for network professionals and IT managers seeking high-performance, reliable data transmission for demanding applications like 10GBASE-T. Its key benefit is delivering Class EA performance up to 90 meters, supporting future-proof network infrastructure. A potential caveat is its specialized construction, requiring careful handling during installation to maintain optimal performance.

FAQs
What is the primary advantage of U/FTP cable construction?
U/FTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair / Foiled Twisted Pair) construction means each pair of wires is individually shielded with foil. This significantly reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crosstalk between pairs, leading to higher data integrity and performance, especially at higher frequencies like those used in Cat6a.
What does 'LSOH' mean and why is it important?
LSOH stands for Low Smoke Zero Halogen. Cables with an LSOH jacket emit very little smoke and no toxic or corrosive gases when exposed to fire, making them safer for installation in public buildings and areas with strict fire safety regulations.
Can this cable be used for 10 Gigabit Ethernet?
Yes, this Cat6a cable is specifically designed and tested to support 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GBASE-T) up to a distance of 90 meters.
Is this cable suitable for outdoor use?
This cable is designed for indoor use. The LSOH jacket is not typically rated for direct UV exposure or extreme outdoor environmental conditions. For outdoor runs, a cable with a suitable outdoor-rated jacket (e.g., PE) is recommended.
What is the difference between solid and stranded core cable?
Solid core cable has a single, solid copper conductor per wire, offering better signal transmission over longer distances and is typically used for fixed installations (backbone cabling, wall outlets). Stranded core cable has multiple smaller strands of copper, making it more flexible and suitable for patch cords that need to bend frequently.
How do I ensure optimal performance from the S-Foil screening?
Proper termination is key. Ensure the foil shield makes good electrical contact with the grounding point at the connector or patch panel to effectively drain away interference. Avoid damaging the foil during the stripping and termination process.
What is Euroclass Dca?
Euroclass Dca is a fire classification according to the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). Class Dca indicates a certain level of reaction to fire performance and is generally suitable for general building installations where moderate fire safety requirements are in place.
Troubleshooting
Slow network speeds or intermittent connectivity.
Verify that the cable is terminated correctly on both ends according to industry standards. Check for any kinks, sharp bends, or damage to the cable sheath or internal pairs. Ensure that the foil screening is properly grounded at the termination points. Test with a certified network cable tester to identify any shorts, opens, or performance issues.
Cable not passing certification tests.
Re-terminate the cable ends, ensuring each conductor is correctly seated in the IDC slot and the foil shield is making good contact. Confirm that the correct wire mapping standard (TIA-568A/B) is used. Ensure the cable meets the specified bend radius and has not been subjected to excessive tension during installation.
Excessive heat generated during PoE transmission.
While LSOH cables are generally suitable for PoE, high-density bundling can lead to heat build-up. Ensure adequate airflow around the cable bundles. Consider derating the cable's performance or using lower-density bundling if consistent high-power PoE is required over extended lengths.
Pros and Cons
Pros
High performance for demanding applications like 10 Gigabit Ethernet.
Individual pair shielding reduces crosstalk and enhances signal quality.
LSOH jacket offers improved safety in case of fire.
CPR compliance ensures adherence to European safety standards.
Robust construction suitable for professional network installations.
Cons
Requires careful installation to maintain optimal shielding effectiveness.
Solid core cable is less flexible than stranded cable, making it less suitable for patch cords.
Higher cost compared to unshielded or lower category cables.
LSOH jacket may be less durable in some industrial environments compared to PE.
Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
Ensure the installation environment meets the specified temperature and humidity ranges for LSOH cables.
Use appropriate termination tools (e.g., Krone or 110 punch-down tools) designed for solid core Cat6a cables.
Carefully strip the outer sheath to expose the screened pairs. Avoid nicking the foil or individual pair insulation.
Terminate each twisted pair onto the corresponding IDC (Insulation Displacement Connector) on patch panels or keystone jacks according to TIA-568A or TIA-568B standards.
Ensure the foil screening is properly connected to ground at the termination point as per manufacturer guidelines.
Compatibility:
Fully backward compatible with Cat5e and Cat6 standards, though performance will be limited by the lowest category device in the link.
Compatible with all standard RJ45 connectors and network equipment supporting up to 10GBASE-T.
Supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) and PoE+ (IEEE 802.3af/at), though heat dissipation should be considered in high-density bundles.
Care:
Store the cable reel in a dry, protected environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
During installation, avoid excessive pulling tension (exceeding 110 N or 25 lbs) or sharp bends (minimum bend radius of 4x the cable diameter).
Keep the cable away from sources of strong electromagnetic interference where possible, although the screening offers significant protection.
Regularly inspect terminations for any signs of damage or corrosion.
