A pad saver is a sacrificial layer placed between your sander's backing pad and the abrasive disc. It protects the backing pad from wear, heat, and dust, thereby extending its lifespan.

While highly recommended for mesh abrasives due to their abrasive nature and heat generation, a pad saver is beneficial for all abrasive types as it reduces wear and heat buildup on your sander's backing pad.

The replacement frequency depends on usage. You should replace it when the hook & loop fastening is no longer secure, or the pad saver's surface shows significant wear and tear.

It should generally improve results by allowing for more consistent pressure and heat management. It adds a minimal amount of thickness, which is usually negligible. Its primary role is protection and longevity of the sander's pad.

This 225mm pad saver is designed for random orbital sanders that utilize a hook & loop system and have a corresponding 225mm backing pad size. Always check your sander's specifications.

After use, brush off loose debris. If a deeper clean is needed, use a slightly damp cloth. Avoid soaking it in water or using harsh cleaning solvents.

The backing pad is an integral part of the sander, providing a base for the abrasive. The pad saver is an accessory that attaches to the backing pad, acting as a disposable protective layer.

Ensure both the sander's backing pad and the pad saver's hook & loop surfaces are clean and free of dust or debris. Check for any damage to the hook & loop fasteners.

Verify that the pad saver's multi-hole pattern is aligned with the dust extraction ports on your sander. Ensure the abrasive disc also has compatible holes and is seated correctly.

Confirm you are using the pad saver correctly, especially with mesh abrasives. Avoid excessive pressure or angling that could cause premature wear. Consider if a different grit or type of abrasive might be more suitable for the task.

Ensure the pad saver is centered correctly on the backing pad and the abrasive disc is also centered. Check that the hook & loop attachments are strong and even on all sides.
