The Microconnect B-UTP515S CAT5e network cable is designed for reliable wired connections in homes, small offices, and entertainment setups. It offers a stable link between devices like modems, routers, and switches, supporting data transfer rates up to 1000 Mbit/s. A key benefit is its latch protection, which safeguards the connector during installation in tight spaces, though its Copper-Clad Aluminium (CCA) conductors may offer slightly lower conductivity than pure copper in demanding applications.

CAT5e cables are rated for frequencies up to 100 MHz and support speeds up to 1000 Mbit/s. CAT6 cables are rated for higher frequencies (up to 250 MHz) and are designed for more demanding applications, though they also support 1000 Mbit/s and can support 10 Gigabit Ethernet over shorter distances.
U/UTP stands for Unshielded Twisted Pair. It means the cable consists of pairs of wires twisted together, but there is no overall foil or braid shielding around the pairs. This makes the cable more flexible but less resistant to electromagnetic interference (EMI) than shielded cables.
While CAT5e cables can technically carry power, the U/UTP (Unshielded Twisted Pair) construction and Copper-Clad Aluminium (CCA) conductors of this specific cable may not be optimal or recommended for sustained PoE applications, especially higher power requirements. Always check the specifications for PoE compatibility.
The standard maximum reliable length for CAT5e cables, as defined by TIA/EIA standards, is 100 meters (328 feet) for data transmission.
For most standard home and office networking, CCA is acceptable. However, pure copper (99.9% pure copper) conductors offer better conductivity and are generally preferred for critical applications, longer runs, or Power over Ethernet (PoE) due to lower resistance and better heat dissipation.
The latch protection is integrated into the design of the connector housing and typically does not add significant bulk. It is designed to reinforce the existing latch mechanism, preventing it from snapping off during installation.
Verify that both ends of the cable are securely plugged into the correct ports. Check the network status lights on your devices. Test the cable with a different device or port to rule out a cable issue.
Ensure the cable is not damaged (e.g., kinks, cuts). Check if the cable is too long for the network infrastructure (though 15m is well within CAT5e limits). Try replacing the cable with a known good one. Verify network settings on connected devices.
The latch protection is designed to prevent damage, but excessive force can still break it. Handle connectors gently. If the latch is damaged, the cable may still function but will be less secure. Consider replacing the cable if the latch is critical for your installation.
