FAQs
What specific types of light pollution does this filter block?
The Cokin Nuances Clearsky filter is designed to block specific wavelengths emitted by common urban light sources such as sodium vapor lamps (typically yellow/orange) and mercury vapor lamps.
Can this filter be used for daytime photography?
While it can be used, its primary benefit is for night photography. For daytime use, it might alter colors or reduce light unnecessarily unless specifically desired for creative effect.
What are the dimensions of the P-SERIES filter?
The P-SERIES (M size) version of the Cokin Nuances Clearsky filter has dimensions of 84 x 100 x 2mm.
Do I need a special lens to use this filter?
No, you do not need a special lens. However, you do need a compatible Cokin P-SERIES filter holder and the appropriate adapter ring for your lens's diameter.
How does this filter enhance astrophotography?
It enhances astrophotography by reducing the ambient light pollution that washes out faint celestial objects. This darkens the sky's background gradient, making stars and the Milky Way appear more distinct and vibrant.
Is the filter resistant to damage?
The filter features scratch-resistant, water-repellent, and oil-repellent properties due to its multi-layer optical treatment. However, it is not shatterproof and should be handled with care.
What is the operating temperature range for this filter?
The recommended operating temperature range for the Cokin Nuances Clearsky filter is between -10°C and +40°C.
Troubleshooting
Filter does not fit the holder
Ensure you are using a Cokin P-SERIES (M size) filter holder, as this filter is specifically designed for that system. Check that the filter is oriented correctly within the holder's slot.
Noticeable color cast or reduced sharpness
Confirm the filter is clean. Ensure the filter is properly seated in the holder and not at an angle. The filter is designed for specific light pollution wavelengths; it might affect colors outside its intended filtering range. Test with different exposure settings.
Water spots or smudges after cleaning
Use a dedicated lens cleaning solution on the microfiber cloth, rather than water. Ensure the cloth is clean and lint-free. Allow the filter to air dry or gently wipe with a dry portion of the cloth.

Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
The Cokin P Nuances Clearsky filter is designed for use with the Cokin P-SERIES (M size) filter holder.
- Attach the appropriate Cokin P-SERIES filter holder to your lens.
- Slide the 84 x 100 x 2mm Clearsky filter into one of the holder's slots.
- Adjust the filter's position as needed to frame your shot.
Compatibility:
- Filter Holder: Exclusively compatible with Cokin P-SERIES (M size) filter holders.
- Lens Size: The holder system allows compatibility with various lens diameters via adapter rings (sold separately).
- Temperature: Recommended operating temperatures are between -10°C and +40°C.
Care:
- Cleaning: Gently wipe the filter surface with a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth. For stubborn smudges, use a lens cleaning solution sparingly on the cloth, not directly on the filter.
- Storage: Store the filter in a protective case or pouch when not in use to prevent scratches and dust accumulation.
- Handling: Avoid touching the optical surfaces directly. Always handle the filter by its edges.
- Extreme Conditions: While durable, avoid prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures or harsh chemicals.
