Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure success, plant your Allium Gladiator bulbs in autumn or early winter when the soil is workable. Choose a location that receives full sun and ensure the soil is fertile and well-draining; if you have heavy clay soil, mix in horticultural grit to improve drainage. Space bulbs approximately 20 cm apart to provide adequate airflow. Once the flowers fade, trim the spent bloom stalks but allow the green leaves to die back naturally. This process is crucial as the foliage absorbs sunlight to store energy in the bulb, ensuring a robust bloom for the following spring. Do not remove the leaves until they have turned yellow and brittle.
