Setup, Compatibility & Care
Compatibility:
Before installation, verify that the NGK DR6HS (4823) is the correct spark plug specification for your engine. Consult your vehicle or equipment's owner's manual or a reliable parts catalog. Key specifications to check include thread size (12mm outer, 12.7mm length), hex nut size (18mm), and reach (2.15mm projection).
Setup (Installation):
- Ensure the engine is cool before starting.
- Remove the old spark plug using the appropriate size wrench.
- Inspect the new spark plug for any damage.
- Carefully thread the new NGK DR6HS by hand to avoid cross-threading.
- Once finger-tight, use a torque wrench to tighten the spark plug to the manufacturer's specified torque setting. Overtightening can damage the cylinder head, while undertightening can lead to combustion leaks.
- Reconnect the spark plug wire securely.
Care:
Spark plugs are generally considered a maintenance item and are not typically 'cared for' in terms of cleaning. They are replaced when they show signs of wear, fouling, or damage. However, during removal for inspection, you can gently clean the exterior of the plug if it is dirty.
