Rainsmart soakaway crates are supplied flat-packed for fast on-site assembly, typically taking 1–2 minutes per crate using a rubber mallet. Eight crates combine to create a standard 1m³ soakaway. Each unit provides a 95% void ratio with a storage capacity of 120 litres, and delivers a 24.2 t/m² vertical and 18 t/m² lateral load rating, making the system suitable for garden and pedestrian installations. No structural clips are required; cable ties can be used to hold crates in place until the side fill is added. All outward-facing surfaces must be wrapped in non-woven geotextile membrane to protect the soakaway from soil ingress and maintain long-term performance. 110mm or 160mm pipework connects via the end entry plate. For 110mm pipe, insert approximately 150mm into the crate after cutting and folding back the geotextile membrane, then secure the membrane tightly around the pipe to prevent particle ingress. For improved system lifespan, we recommend installing a pre-filter such as our SiltGuard Silt Trap to reduce silt entering the soakaway.
