Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
Your Spider Plant arrives potted in a 12cm pot. No immediate repotting is necessary unless the plant appears root-bound. Ensure it is placed in its intended location immediately upon arrival.
Compatibility:
- Light: Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can burn the leaves. Can tolerate lower light conditions but may grow slower and produce fewer plantlets.
- Temperature: Average room temperatures (18-24°C) are ideal.
- Watering: Water thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry. Allow excess water to drain to prevent root rot. Reduce watering in winter.
- Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix.
- Humidity: Appreciates average to slightly higher humidity but tolerates typical household levels.
Care:
- Feeding: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 2-4 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Do not feed in autumn and winter.
- Pruning: Trim off any brown or damaged leaves with clean scissors. Remove faded flower stalks. You can let the plantlets hang or snip them off.
- Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years, or when the plant becomes root-bound, into a slightly larger pot.
- Cleaning: Wipe leaves occasionally with a damp cloth to remove dust.
