Setup, Compatibility & Care
To ensure your plant thrives, choose a spot with fertile, well-drained soil. If planting in a container, ensure the pot has adequate drainage holes at the bottom. Mix high-quality potting compost with a small amount of grit to prevent waterlogging.
- Planting: Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball and place the plant at the same depth it was in its nursery container.
- Watering: Water regularly during the first year. Once established, only water during extended hot, dry spells.
- Pruning: Prune back in late winter or early spring before new growth starts to encourage a bushier habit and more flowers.
- Dormancy: Do not be alarmed if your plant arrives without leaves in winter or early spring; it is simply in its natural dormant state and will sprout new foliage once temperatures rise.
