Setup, Compatibility & Care
Mixing Mortar:
- Ensure clean mixing equipment.
- Combine lime with sand in the recommended ratio (refer to manufacturer's guidelines or project specifications, typically 1:2 or 1:3 lime to sand).
- Gradually add clean water until a workable, plastic consistency is achieved. Avoid over-watering.
- Mix thoroughly to ensure uniform distribution of materials.
Compatibility:
This lime is suitable for most common masonry types, including brick, stone, and blockwork. It is particularly compatible with historic masonry due to its inherent properties. It should not be mixed directly with Portland cement unless specifically formulated as a blended product, as this can alter its setting characteristics and performance.
Care:
Store lime in a cool, dry place in its original, sealed packaging. Protect from moisture and extreme temperatures. Once mixed, use the mortar within a reasonable timeframe as it will begin to set. Cured mortar should be protected from frost during the initial setting period. Clean tools and equipment with water immediately after use.
