The McAlpine 1000mm Linear Shower Channel Drain (CD1000-SQ) is designed for professional contractors and homeowners undertaking high-end wet room renovations who prioritize both drainage efficiency and modern aesthetics. Its primary benefit is the combination of durable grade 304 stainless steel construction and flexible installation options that ensure a flush, seamless finish with various tile thicknesses. One important caveat to note is that this drain requires precise sub-floor preparation to ensure proper gradients for effective water flow, making it better suited for experienced installers.

The drain is designed to accommodate tile thicknesses up to 16mm using the adjustable frame, and the reversible cover plate supports tiles up to 8mm.
While the 304 stainless steel is corrosion-resistant, it is specifically designed for indoor bathroom and wet room environments.
Lift the grate using a standard drain hook or tool, remove any surface hair or debris, and rinse with warm, soapy water.
It is designed to be compatible with most standard wet room tanking and waterproofing membranes, provided the installation is sealed correctly.
The cover plate itself is reversible, allowing you to choose between the stainless steel grid finish or a tile-in option if applicable.
Check if the floor gradient is sufficient towards the drain and ensure the internal channel is clear of construction debris.
Adjust the height-adjustable frame until the top of the grate is flush with the finished tile surface.
Ensure that the waterproof membrane (tanking) has been correctly applied and sealed to the flange of the shower drain.
Installation of the CD1000-SQ requires ensuring the sub-floor is prepared with a consistent gradient toward the drain channel. When setting the frame, use a spirit level to verify the height is consistent with your tiling plan. The adjustable frame should be tightened once the tile height is confirmed to lock it into place.
For maintenance, the grate can be removed for regular cleaning to clear debris or hair that might accumulate in the channel. Always use non-abrasive cleaning agents to preserve the finish of the stainless steel. Avoid using harsh acidic cleaners, as these can eventually damage the protective surface of the steel.
