Setup, Compatibility & Care
First-Time Wear
Upon receiving your jacket, gently remove any temporary stitching (basting) found on the lapels, pockets, and sometimes the back vent. These stitches are there to maintain the jacket's shape during transit and should be carefully cut with small scissors. Hang the jacket on a sturdy, broad-shouldered hanger to allow any creases from packaging to relax.
Compatibility
- Matching Trousers: For a complete suit, pair with matching Burton French Navy slim fit trousers.
- Shirts: White, light blue, or patterned dress shirts complement the French Navy colour.
- Ties & Pocket Squares: Choose colours and patterns that either contrast or subtly complement the jacket for added personality.
- Footwear: Classic leather dress shoes (oxfords, derbies) for formal occasions, or smart leather brogues/loafers for smart-casual.
Care Instructions
- Cleaning: Suit jackets, especially those with tailored structures, generally require dry cleaning only. Always check the care label inside the jacket for specific instructions. Frequent dry cleaning is not recommended; spot clean minor stains and air out after each wear.
- Storage: Always hang your jacket on a quality, broad-shouldered hanger that supports the shoulder shape. Avoid wire hangers, which can distort the garment.
- Wrinkle Removal: For minor wrinkles, hang the jacket in a steamy bathroom or use a handheld garment steamer. Avoid direct ironing unless absolutely necessary, and always use a pressing cloth on a low heat setting.
- Maintenance: Brush off lint and dust regularly with a soft garment brush to keep the fabric looking fresh.
