Setup, Compatibility & Care
Compatibility:
Before purchasing, always verify that the NGK Laser Iridium Spark Plug (95397) is compatible with your specific vehicle's make, model, and year. Consult your vehicle's owner's manual or a trusted parts catalog.
Installation:
- Preparation: Ensure the engine is cool. Disconnect the battery's negative terminal.
- Access: Remove any engine covers or components obstructing access to the spark plugs.
- Removal: Carefully unthread the old spark plugs using a spark plug socket and extension.
- Inspection: Check the old plugs for signs of fouling or wear, which may indicate underlying engine issues.
- Gapping: Crucially, check the gap on the new NGK spark plugs. While often pre-gapped, verify against your vehicle's specifications. Adjust gently if necessary using a proper gapping tool; avoid damaging the iridium tip.
- Installation: Thread the new plugs in by hand to prevent cross-threading. Then, tighten them to the manufacturer's specified torque using a torque wrench. Overtightening can damage the cylinder head.
- Reassembly: Reconnect ignition coils and any removed components. Reconnect the battery terminal.
Care:
These spark plugs are designed for long life and typically require no routine maintenance beyond proper installation. If troubleshooting is required, consult the 'Troubleshooting' section. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on the spark plug tip.
