Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
- Ensure the refractometer prism and the sample surface are clean.
- Place a few drops of the fluid to be tested onto the prism.
- Close the cover plate gently, ensuring the fluid spreads evenly without air bubbles.
- Point the eyepiece towards a light source (natural daylight is recommended).
- Focus the eyepiece until the scale is sharp and clear.
Compatibility:
This refractometer is specifically calibrated for:
- AdBlue (Urea solution)
- Ethylene Glycol (EG)
- Propylene Glycol (PG)
- Battery Fluid (BF)
- Screen Wash (CW - freezing point)
It is not designed for use with other substances unless they share a similar refractive index behavior and fall within the calibrated range for one of the supported scales.
Care:
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the prism and cover plate immediately with a soft, damp cloth. Use distilled water if necessary. Dry thoroughly with a soft, lint-free cloth. Never use abrasive materials or harsh solvents, as they can damage the prism surface.
- Storage: Store the refractometer in its original case in a dry, protected environment. Avoid extreme temperatures and direct sunlight for extended periods.
- Calibration: The device is factory-calibrated. For critical applications, periodic recalibration with distilled water and a known standard may be advisable, though typically not required for routine use.
