The Stanley Surform Flat Block Plane is versatile and can be used on all types of wood, aluminium, copper, plastics, and laminates.

You can change the blade quickly by loosening the thumb screw on top of the plane, replacing the blade, and then re-tightening the screw.

The plane comes equipped with a 140mm (5.1/2 inch) fine cut blade.

This plane is best suited for controlled shaping and smoothing due to its fine-cut blade. For very heavy material removal, a plane with a coarser blade or a different tool might be more appropriate.

The overall length of the Stanley Surform Flat Block Plane is 155mm (6 inches).

Keep the plane clean and dry. Clear debris after use, oil the metal parts periodically to prevent rust, and replace the blade when it becomes dull.

Check if the blade is sharp. If dull, replace it. Ensure the blade is securely tightened with the thumb screw and properly seated in the plane body.

Clean the blade and body thoroughly after each use. For very sticky materials, try using a cleaner or solvent to remove residue, and ensure the blade is dry before storage.

Ensure the threads of the thumb screw and the receiving hole are clean and free of debris. A small amount of lubricant can help, but avoid over-application which can attract dirt.

Ensure the plane is held flat against the workpiece and moved with consistent pressure. Check for any warpage in the plane body or blade.
