The downpipe filter collects leaves, moss, and other debris from your roof and downpipe before the water enters the tank, ensuring cleaner stored water and preventing the tank's inlet from becoming blocked.

While not strictly required, a stand is highly recommended. It elevates the tank, making it easier to fill watering cans or connect hoses, and it also improves water pressure when dispensing.

It is recommended to check and clean the filter at least twice a year, typically in late spring after pollen season and in late autumn after leaves have fallen. More frequent cleaning may be needed in areas with many trees.

Rainwater collected in this manner is generally suitable for garden use only. It is not recommended for drinking due to potential contaminants from the roof and atmosphere.

To prevent frost damage, it is advisable to drain the water butt completely before the first frost. Disconnect the downpipe connector and store the tank appropriately if severe frost is expected.

The water butt includes a connector designed for standard downpipes. You will typically need to cut your downpipe at the appropriate height and fit the connector between the downpipe sections and the tank inlet.

Check that the downpipe connection is secure and that the downpipe itself is clear of blockages. Ensure the tank's inlet is not obstructed.

Tighten the tap connection. If the leak persists, check the washer or seal for damage and replace if necessary.

Clean the downpipe filter and ensure the tank lid is securely in place to prevent debris from entering. Rinse the tank if necessary.

Ensure the tank is placed on a level and solid surface. Use a water butt stand to elevate the tank and provide a more stable base.
