The Marshalltown Scoring Knife (M/TMSC2S) is a professional-grade tool engineered for contractors and DIY enthusiasts who regularly work with cement backer board. Its primary benefit is the ability to create precise, clean scores in rigid materials, significantly reducing installation time and effort. However, users should note that while the tungsten carbide tips are highly durable, they are specifically intended for scoring mineral-based panels and may not be suitable for cutting through wood or metal materials.

No, this tool is specifically designed for scoring cement backer board and is not suitable for cutting wood or metal.
The tungsten carbide tips are designed for longevity and typically do not require sharpening. If they lose performance, it is usually due to dust buildup or wear, at which point the tool may need to be replaced.
The inside tip is designed for specific angles where the standard blade position may be difficult to maneuver. Grip the handle firmly and use the inward-facing edge to guide your score line.
Yes, the symmetrical design of the handle and blade placement allows for use by both left-handed and right-handed operators.
It is intended for cement backer board used under tile installations.
Apply firmer, consistent pressure during the stroke or make a secondary pass over the same line.
Inspect the carbide tip for cement dust buildup and clean thoroughly; ensure the tool is being held at the correct angle.
Check that the internal components are clear of debris; if the fit is compromised, inspect the handle rivets or screw points for tension.
This tool is ready to use directly out of the package with no assembly required. It is fully compatible with most standard cement backer board brands found in residential and commercial construction. To maintain the tool, wipe the handle clean of construction dust after each use with a dry cloth. Inspect the three tungsten carbide tips periodically; if you notice the score line becoming shallow or inconsistent, ensure there is no buildup of cement dust caught in the blade housing. Store the knife in a dry place to prevent moisture accumulation on the metal components.
