Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
- Preparation: Due to its natural origin, the Azalea Root may release tannins, which can tint the aquarium water a light brown. To minimize this, it is recommended to soak the root in a separate container of water for several days to a week, changing the water daily until it runs clear. Alternatively, boiling the root for an hour can help accelerate this process and ensure it sinks. Some aquarists prefer the natural tannin effect, which can benefit certain fish species.
- Placement: Position the root in your desired location within the aquarium. Ensure it is stable and will not shift, potentially damaging aquarium glass or inhabitants.
- Planting: Once in place and stable, attach mosses and epiphytic plants using aquarium-safe super glue gel or fishing line. Anchor plants with roots directly into substrate around the base if desired.
Compatibility:
This product is compatible with all types of freshwater aquariums.
Care:
- The root requires no special maintenance beyond initial preparation.
- Regular aquarium cleaning routines (water changes, substrate vacuuming) should be followed.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners on the root. A soft brush can be used during water changes if any algae buildup is unsightly.
