Setup, Compatibility & Care
When planting your 2L Carex 'Prairie Fire', ensure the soil is well-draining to prevent root rot, as this variety does not tolerate waterlogged conditions. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball, place the plant at the same depth as the container, and backfill with native soil.
- Watering: Provide regular moisture during the first growing season. Once established, it is relatively drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional deep watering during extended dry spells.
- Feeding: Generally does not require heavy fertilization; a light application of a balanced granular fertilizer in early spring is sufficient.
- Pruning: Minimal pruning is required. Simply comb through the plant with your fingers or a rake in early spring to remove any dead or wind-damaged foliage.
