Setup, Compatibility & Care
Compatibility
The MAM Air Soothers are specifically designed for babies aged 6 months and older. It is crucial to adhere to this age recommendation for your baby's safety and comfort, as the size and shape are optimized for this developmental stage.
Initial Setup
Before first use, and periodically thereafter, sterilise the soother to ensure optimal hygiene. The included travel case simplifies this process:
- Fill the travel case with 25ml of water.
- Place the soother(s) inside the case with the teat facing down.
- Close the case securely.
- Heat in a microwave for 3 minutes at 750-1000 watts. If your microwave wattage is different, adjust the time accordingly. For example, 4 minutes at 500-750 watts. Refer to your microwave's manual.
- Allow to cool for at least 5 minutes before opening. Discard any remaining water.
Care and Maintenance
- Daily Cleaning: Wash the soother frequently with warm water and mild soap. Rinse thoroughly.
- Sterilisation: Sterilise the soother regularly, especially before each use for newborns (though this product is for 6+ months, general good practice applies) and after the soother has fallen on the floor or been in contact with unclean surfaces. Use the microwave steriliser case as described above, or other approved sterilisation methods (e.g., boiling water for 5 minutes, steam steriliser).
- Inspection: Always inspect the soother carefully before each use, especially when the baby has teeth. Pull the teat in all directions. Discard at the first sign of damage or weakness, such as stickiness, enlargement, or cracks.
- Storage: Store soothers in a dry, covered container. Do not leave the soother in direct sunlight or heat, or leave it in sterilising solution for longer than recommended, as this may weaken the teat.
- Safety: Never dip the soother in sweet substances or medicine, as this can lead to tooth decay. Never attach ribbons or cords to a soother, as your baby may be strangled by them. Do not use the soother as a toy. For hygiene and safety reasons, replace soothers every 1-2 months. If your baby has started teething, check more frequently for damage.
