Codenames is best played with at least four players (two teams of two or more players each).

The goal is to correctly identify all of your team's agents on the board before the other team does, while avoiding the Assassin.

The spymaster is a player on each team who knows which words represent their team's agents and gives one-word clues to help their team identify those words.

Spymasters give a one-word clue and a number, indicating how many words on the board relate to that clue. The team then tries to guess those words.

If a team guesses the Assassin, they immediately lose the game.

The other team gets to cover that word. The turn then passes to the other team.

No. Codenames Duet is a separate game. You cannot play it with the components of this version of Codenames.

The game is recommended for players aged 10 years and older.

Spymasters and teams should discuss the intended meaning and try to find common ground. A second clue can be given if necessary.

Encourage all players to participate in clue-giving and discussion.
