Setup, Compatibility & Care
Setup:
Installation typically involves mounting the latch plate to the door and the keeper to the door frame. Ensure the latch mechanism aligns correctly with the keeper. Screws are usually provided, but you may need additional hardware depending on your door material. It's recommended to pre-drill holes to avoid splitting wood.
Compatibility:
This thumb latch is designed for use on most standard inward-opening doors. It is compatible with wooden doors and can be adapted for certain metal doors with appropriate fixings. The 200mm plate offers a good surface area for mounting on various door thicknesses.
Care:
To maintain the finish and function of your thumb latch:
- Cleaning: Wipe clean with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the cast iron or finish.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a light oil (such as WD-40 or a silicone-based lubricant) to the moving parts of the mechanism to ensure smooth operation and prevent sticking.
- Inspection: Regularly check for any signs of wear or damage, particularly on the moving thumb lever and the internal mechanism.
