This guide is for home sewists working with stretchy and knit fabrics. The key benefit is preventing skipped stitches and fabric damage, ensuring a professional finish on garments like t-shirts and activewear. A caveat is that these needles are specifically for stretch fabrics and may not perform optimally on wovens. Schmetz Stretch needles (System: 130/705 H-S) in Size 75/11 are designed for materials such as T-shirts, silk jersey, velour, fine jersey, single jersey, and cotton knitwear. They feature a medium ballpoint tip and a special needle shape to avoid skipped stitches, along with a flat shank for compatibility and color-coding for easy identification (Yellow for stretch, Dusky pink for size 75/11).

These needles are specifically designed for elastic fabrics such as T-shirts, silk jersey, velour, fine jersey, single jersey, and cotton knitwear.
The needles have a yellow color marking for stretch (System H-S) and a dusky pink marking indicates size 75/11. The packaging also clearly states the size and type.
While they might work on some lighter wovens, they are optimized for stretch fabrics. For standard woven materials, a universal or sharp needle is generally recommended for best results.
It's recommended to change your needle after every 6-8 hours of sewing, or immediately if you notice skipped stitches, thread breaks, or fabric damage. For critical projects, changing before starting is wise.
This refers to the needle system size and type. 130/705 is the standard shank size for home sewing machines, and H-S specifically denotes a stretch needle with a medium ballpoint.
The 130/705 H-S system is for standard home sewing machines. Sergers and overlock machines often use different needle systems (e.g., ELx705) which are specifically designed for their multi-needle operation.
Ensure the correct stretch needle is being used and is properly inserted with the flat side of the shank to the back. Check if the needle is bent or dull and replace it if necessary. Verify the machine is threaded correctly.
Confirm you are using the correct needle size (75/11 is for finer knits). Ensure the needle is not bent and that the machine's tension is correctly set. Use a thread appropriate for stretch fabrics.
Check for a bent needle, incorrect needle insertion, or machine tension issues. Ensure the needle is fully inserted and secured. Avoid forcing the fabric through the machine; let the feed dogs do the work.
This could indicate a bent needle hitting the throat plate or presser foot. Stop sewing immediately, check the needle, and ensure it is straight and correctly installed. Also, check for lint buildup around the bobbin area.
Setup: To set up, insert the needle into your sewing machine's needle clamp. Ensure the flat side of the shank faces the back of the machine. Tighten the clamp screw to secure the needle.
Compatibility: These needles use the 130/705 H-S system, which is standard for most home sewing machines, including brands like Singer, Brother, Janome, and Pfaff. The flat shank is designed for compatibility with these machines.
Care: Store needles in their original protective case when not in use to prevent damage and rust. Avoid using bent or dull needles, as they can cause skipped stitches or damage fabric. Replace needles regularly, especially after completing a complex project or if you notice a decline in stitch quality.
