FAQs

How do I choose the right size Ruffwear Confluence™ Life Jacket?

Refer to the Ruffwear sizing chart, which typically uses measurements like girth (the widest part of the chest). Ensure a snug fit without restricting movement. The multiple adjustment points allow for customization.

Can my dog wear this jacket all day?

This life jacket is designed for water activities and supervised use. It's best to remove it when not in or near water to allow the dog's skin to breathe and to prevent unnecessary wear.

How do I clean the life jacket?

Hand wash with mild soap and cool water. Rinse thoroughly and hang to air dry completely. Avoid machine washing, bleach, or dry cleaning.

Is the leash attachment point secure enough for strong pullers?

The reinforced webbing loop is designed for leash attachment. However, for dogs that pull very strongly, it's always recommended to use a harness with a front-clip or back-clip attachment, or to supervise closely.

Does this life jacket come with The Beacon™?

No, The Beacon™ is sold separately. The jacket has a dedicated light loop for attaching The Beacon™ for increased visibility in low-light conditions.

What is the material of the life jacket?

The jacket is constructed from durable materials including 800 denier ballistic polyester (bluesign® approved), PVC-free EVA foam, CLPE foam, and polyester webbing.

Troubleshooting

Jacket slips to one side

Ensure all adjustment straps are tightened evenly and securely. Check that the size is appropriate for your dog's body shape.

Dog seems uncomfortable or restricted

Loosen the adjustment straps slightly, particularly around the neck and chest. Ensure the jacket is not too tight and allows for natural movement.

Buckles are difficult to clip

Ensure the buckles are properly aligned and free of debris. If they are stiff due to salt or sand, rinse them with fresh water.

Jacket does not provide enough buoyancy

Confirm the correct size has been selected and that the foam panels are properly aligned. Ensure no air is trapped under the foam panels.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Offers excellent comfort and freedom of movement due to its harness design.
  • Provides reliable buoyancy to support a natural swimming position.
  • Features strategically placed handles for easy and balanced lifting.
  • Ensures a secure and adjustable fit with multiple points of adjustment.
  • Durable materials designed to withstand wet environments.
  • Enhances visibility with reflective accents and a light attachment point.

Cons

  • Requires careful fitting to ensure optimal performance and comfort.
  • May be bulkier than simpler flotation devices.
  • The leash attachment point is on the back, which may not be suitable for all training needs.

Setup, Compatibility & Care

Setup:

  1. Unclip all buckles.
  2. Unfold the jacket and place it over your dog's back, ensuring the foam panels are positioned along the dog's torso.
  3. Fasten the buckles around the dog's belly and chest. Adjust the straps at the neck, chest, and rear until the jacket is snug but comfortable, with no gaps. The jacket should not restrict movement.
  4. Attach your leash to the reinforced webbing loop on the back.

Compatibility:

  • Designed for dogs of various breeds and sizes; ensure to select the correct size based on measurements.
  • Features a loop for The Beacon™ (sold separately) for added visibility.

Care:

  • Hand wash with mild detergent.
  • Rinse thoroughly.
  • Air dry completely. Do not machine wash, bleach, or dry clean.
