FAQs

How do I know if I need a new valve guide?

Symptoms of worn valve guides include increased oil consumption, blue smoke from the exhaust (especially on startup or deceleration), poor engine performance, rough idling, and potential misfires. A mechanic can diagnose worn guides.

What is the difference between an intake and exhaust valve guide?

Exhaust valve guides operate under higher temperatures and harsher conditions due to direct contact with combustion gases. They are often made from materials or designed to withstand these extreme environments, unlike intake valve guides.

What does OE-equivalent mean?

OE-equivalent means the part is manufactured to meet or exceed the specifications of the original equipment (OE) part installed by the vehicle manufacturer. It is designed to perform the same function and fit the same way.

Which vehicles is this Febi Bilstein Valve Guide (10668) compatible with?

This valve guide is compatible with a range of VW and Audi models, including specific versions of the Golf, Jetta, Passat, Polo, Scirocco, LT, Santana, Derby, 80, 90, 100, and 200 series, provided they have matching engine codes such as WE, JV, and others listed in the product details. Always verify against your vehicle's specifications.

Can I install this valve guide myself?

Installation of valve guides requires specialized tools and mechanical expertise. It is strongly recommended to have this part installed by a qualified automotive professional to ensure correct fitment and prevent engine damage.

What are the key dimensions of this valve guide?

The Febi Bilstein Valve Guide (10668) has a length of 42 mm, an inner diameter of 7.8 mm, and an outer diameter of 12 mm.

What is the weight of this valve guide?

The weight of this valve guide is approximately 0.021 kg.

Troubleshooting

Valve sticking or poor sealing after installation

Re-verify that the correct valve guide part number (10668) was used for the specific engine and that the dimensions match the requirements. Ensure the valve stem is clean and free of debris. Check for any obstructions in the cylinder head port. Professional assessment of valve and guide alignment may be necessary.

Increased engine oil consumption post-replacement

Confirm the valve guide was installed to the correct depth and is properly seated. Check that the valve stem seals are new and correctly fitted. Inspect the valve stem for damage or excessive wear, which could allow oil to pass the guide.

Engine misfires or rough running

Ensure the valve is moving freely within the guide. Check for any carbon buildup on the valve or guide. Verify that all related engine components (e.g., camshafts, lifters) are functioning correctly.
